Making memories together is one of the things you and your friends do best. That's why you want the right destination for your next girls' getaway — a place where you'll have an unforgettable experience. These top destinations offer plenty of scenery, nightlife, dining, and shopping to please everyone in the crowd.
Best Girls’ Trips Destinations by Each U.S. Region
Sometimes you want fun and sun. Sometimes it’s all about the food. Sometimes it’s more about the ability to get there and back in a weekend (“I don’t care what I do as long as I get to go somewhere!”). Let’s kick off the girlfriend trip ideas with our favorite spots for each region.
Northeast: Boston, Massachusetts
You don't have to be a history buff to enjoy a weekend in Boston. The city has plenty of experience (400+ years) operating as a cultural center. Among the narrow streets, public squares, and historical landmarks lies a vibrant, diverse community. Here you'll find some of the nation's top museums, galleries, restaurants, and more all waiting for you and your girls to visit.
Stroll through the Seaport District and stop for a drink with a view at a rooftop bar, check out the Institute of Contemporary Art or listen to live music. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery at the Public Garden and take a ride in one of the city's famous swan boats. Then treat yourselves to a late lunch and afternoon tea (including tea-infused cocktails) at the Boston Public Library before a night out in the Theater District.
Must-see Boston: Step back in time and walk the Freedom Trail. This 2.5-mile red line connects 16 historic sites that tell the story of the American Revolution. Stops include the Paul Revere House, Old North Church, and the Bunker Hill Monument.
Midwest: Chicago, Illinois
The Windy City may be known for its sports teams and deep-dish pizza, but you and the gals will quickly discover it's second to none. Here you'll find top-rated museums, towering skyscrapers, rooftops with stunning views of the city, and some of the finest collections of public art in the country. In short, there's something for everyone here.
While you're in town, stroll the Chicago Riverwalk where you can explore public gardens and take a boat tour or spend the afternoon relaxing in a traditional bathhouse. Check out Millennium Park and the city's iconic "Bean" sculpture before you grab a slice of deep-dish pizza at Giordano's and drinks at Time Out Market Bar. Then stop for a quick rest at your hotel before the squad heads out for a show at Second City or Untitled Supper Club.
Must-see Chicago: Shop 'til you drop along the Magnificent Mile, a 13-block stretch of department stores (including Nordstrom's flagship store), three multistory malls, and boutiques. This is retail therapy at its finest.
West: Las Vegas, Nevada
When you need a getaway where you can let it all out and glam it up, Las Vegas is your place. It's flashy, fast-paced, and unashamed of its reputation. From the hustle and bustle of The Strip to the stunning scenery on the outskirts of town, you and your squad will find plenty to do for everyone in the group. Best of all, the iconic jewel of the desert will keep all of your secrets — as long as you keep them off your social feeds.
You can easily spend your entire time in Vegas exploring the hotels and museums. Where else can you stroll through ancient Rome and Egypt, Venice, and New York City, or get up close and personal with the city all in a single weekend?
If you and the girls prefer a quieter spot for some bonding time, head out to Red Rock Canyon for a hike or spend the afternoon in one of the city's posh spas. Or put on your best little black dress and dance the night away in the Chandelier Bar at the Cosmopolitan or Omnia at Caesars Palace. End the night at The Peppermill, where you can slide into a red velvet booth for a late-night omelet.
Must-see Las Vegas: Play a game in a casino just for fun. Give yourself some spending money and try a slot machine, roulette wheel, or blackjack table. Whether you win or lose, you'll experience the thrill of possibility in the city's most recognizable attractions.
South: Savannah, Georgia
Coastal charm drapes Savannah like the Spanish moss in oak trees. Steeped in history, stunning architecture, and Southern hospitality, Savannah beckons you to slow down and unwind. Just bring your camera everywhere you go. The cobblestone streets, historic squares, and eclectic art displays are the perfect backdrops for Instagram-worthy posts to show off for friends back home.
Start the day with a leisurely brunch at Collins Quarter (try the lavender mocha!), where you can connect with one another and plan the day. Tour the city on the Savannah Slow Ride. You can sip on your favorite beverage and work off your brunch calories. End the day with a night of bar-hopping or ghost tours through historic cemeteries. While you're in town, get your fix of sand and saltwater on Tybee Island as you enjoy steamed seafood, fish tacos, and cold drinks on the beach.
Must-see Savannah: Stop by the Savannah City Market for an eclectic cultural experience. This is the spot to check out work from emerging artists, pick up a locally produced souvenir in one of the galleries or shops, and jam out to live music.
5 Best Girls’ Weekend Getaways Across the U.S.
Want to fly under the radar a bit but still have an epic time with your squad? Rather than heading to those major cities above, check out these lesser-known gems.
1. Finger Lakes Region, New York
The Finger Lakes in Upstate New York is perfect for a slowdown, but that doesn’t mean you’ll lack for things to do. Road trip from winery to winery. Most have delicious restaurants overlooking gorgeous views to go along with their tastings and tours. Glenora Wine Cellars on Seneca Lake, near Watkins Glen, is our favorite for outdoor dining.
You could also plan a girls’ weekend getaway with meaning by visiting the Women’s Rights National Historical Park in Seneca Falls. This is where, in 1848, civil rights leaders signed the Declaration of Sentiments, advocating for equal rights and suffrage for women. It serves as an important reminder of the vital work that went into gaining the right to vote.
Must-see Finger Lakes: You could easily spend an entire day at the Corning Museum of Glass. Exhibits cover the full range, highlighting the artistry, science, and functionality of glass. You’ll see everything from fashion to fiber optics and discover how different glass is made, whether it’s for pure beauty or functionality. Be sure to catch one of the many glassblowing demonstrations.
2. The Karen Beasly Sea Turtle Rescue & Rehabilitation Center — Surf City, North Carolina
The Outer Banks and Hilton Head routinely make the list of fun girls’ trip locations, but to beat the crowds, head to Topsail Island, North Carolina, instead. Book a B&B or rental, spend some time on the beach, and enjoy a summer weekend of delicious seafood and ice cream.
For a unique experience, visit The Karen Beasly Sea Turtle Rescue & Rehabilitation Center. Tickets are less than $10 and let you tour the sea turtle hospital. Time your trip right — usually late July to early October — and you might even catch the turtles nesting and hatching.
Must-see Topsail Island: Rent a canoe or kayak from one of the many outfitters on the island. There are also guided tours for exploring Topsail Sound and the Intracoastal Waterway that separates the island from mainland North Carolina.
3. Mackinac Island State Park — Mackinac Island, Michigan
You won’t find cars on Mackinac Island — it's all bikes, carriages, and leisurely walking — so don’t be surprised if you spend your girls’ weekend basking in the unspoiled beauty of this quaint area. Get your bearings by hiring a horse-drawn carriage with tour guide to show you the best places on the island.
Mackinac Island State Park makes up most of the island and is free to visit. Enjoy the trails the meander through forests and to incredible viewpoints and historic landmarks like Fort Mackinac, Biddle House, and Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse.
Must-see Mackinac Island: It is our unofficial opinion that Mackinac Island must produce more fudge per capita than anywhere else in the universe. Regardless of whether that’s actually true, take advantage of the sweet treat options. Murray’s Hotel Fudge Co. and Original Murdick’s Fudge should be on your tasting list.
4. Self-Guided Foodie Tour — Indianapolis, Indiana
You might not think of the Midwest as the epicenter of great dining, but you can eat very, very well in Indianapolis. So when you’re looking for fun girls’ trip locations, pack your stretchiest leggings and give Indy a shot.
St. Elmo Steak House is an Indianapolis icon. Everything is good, but you can’t come here without ordering the famous shrimp cocktail. It has a spice kick to it; don’t say we didn’t warn you. The downtown location is perfect for dinner before a Pacers or Fever game. Basketball is the Hoosier’s sport after all, and you don’t want to miss the chance to catch Caitlin Clark in action.
Explore the rest of downtown Indianapolis during the day with a stroll down Massachusetts Avenue (Mass Ave for those in the know), full of quirky shops and restaurants, or explore the many monuments. The Indiana War Memorial is our favorite. Be sure to go to the Shrine Room on the upper level for a breathtaking homage to World War I veterans.
When you’re ready to refill your stomachs, check out The Rathskeller for some excellent German food. There’s also The Garage Food Hall if everyone wants something different for dinner or St. Joseph Brewery & Public House, which is housed in a converted church.
Must-see Indianapolis: About an hour south of Indianapolis is Brown County State Park and the town of Nashville, Indiana. This is worth the quick trip, especially in the fall when the leaves are at their peak autumn colors.
5. Rosie the Riveter National Historical Park — Richmond, California
During World War II, many jobs in the U.S. were taken on by women, marking one of the key moments in women’s fight for equal rights. The Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park tells the story of how we supported the war effort while finally breaking into the workforce. October 2025 is the park’s official 25th anniversary, making it an especially magical time to experience and help preserve this part of American history.
The historical park is just outside the San Francisco/Oakland area, about 20 miles north of the Oakland Airport. Check out our three-day itinerary for San Francisco if you’re looking for inspiration for your girls’ weekend getaway.
Must-see Richmond: Keeping with the theme, make sure your trip includes Richmond Marina Bay Trail. Part of the San Francisco Bay Trail, it connects key sites like the Rosie the Riveter Visitor Education Center and the Rosie the Riveter Memorial. Along with those historical landmarks, the trail also offers coastal views and outdoor recreation. Take a walk or rent a bicycle to explore as much or as little as you like.
