Travel Insurance and the War in Ukraine
Seven Corners encourages all travelers to review the USDOS travel alerts and warnings before planning a trip and traveling abroad. When purchasing travel insurance, be sure to read the plan document to fully understand what is covered as well as exclusions and limitations.
Seven Corners Trip Protection
War is listed as a general exclusion, which applies to all losses and all benefits provided by the plan. The exclusion states: “We will not pay for any loss or expense caused, due to, arising or resulting from: war or act of war, including invasion, acts of foreign enemies, hostilities between nations (whether declared or undeclared), or civil war, except as the policy specifically provides otherwise.”
Coverage available for travelers could include Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) and Interruption for Any Reason (IFAR).
Cancel for Any Reason: If a traveler wants the option to cancel their trip because of the war, they could utilize CFAR. Their reason for canceling a trip could include, but is not limited to, fear of travel due to the war. Travelers should review the plan document for their state of residence for the requirements to purchase and make a CFAR claim.
Interruption for Any Reason: If a traveler wants the option to interrupt their trip because of the war, they could utilize IFAR. Their reason for interrupting a trip could include, but is not limited to, fear of travel due to the war. Travelers should review the plan document for their state of residence for the requirements to purchase and make an IFAR claim.

There is a general exclusion for war that eliminates coverage provided by medical benefits and most other plan benefits if a loss is due to war, hostilities, or war-like operations. Travelers should review the policy carefully, including the definition of war, hostilities, and war-like operation.
